What is Stranded Tungsten Wire?
Stranded tungsten wire, also known as tungsten twisted wire, is a structural material formed by mechanically twisting multiple tungsten wires together. The two terms differ mainly in usage: stranded tungsten wire is more common in technical documentation and standards, while tungsten twisted wire is a more widely used industry term.
Stranded tungsten wire is composed of multiple tungsten wires processed through mechanical twisting. It maintains good electrical conductivity while significantly improving mechanical strength and flexibility. Under high-temperature conditions, single tungsten wire is prone to stress concentration, which may lead to deformation or fracture. The stranded structure effectively distributes stress, improving overall structural stability. This advantage is particularly important during repeated heating and cooling cycles, helping reduce fracture risk and extend service life.
As a result, stranded tungsten wire is widely used in high-temperature heating elements and serves as a key material for tungsten heaters, tungsten evaporation coils and tungsten baskets. In Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) vacuum coating processes, it is commonly used as an evaporation heating element for materials such as aluminum, silver and gold. It is also applied in filament structures, thermionic cathodes and heating components in vacuum electronic devices.
Typical tungsten wire diameters range from 0.2 to 0.8 mm, with 2 to 4 strands commonly used. Purity of tungsten wire is typically greater than or equal to 99.95 percent to ensure stability and reliability in high-temperature and vacuum environments.
