What's Tungsten Evaporation Wire?

Tungsten evaporation wire, also known as vacuum evaporation tungsten wire or tungsten heater, is a resistance-based heating element used in vacuum evaporation coating equipment to directly heat non-ferrous metals for deposition.

Tungsten evaporation wire is manufactured using high-purity tungsten wire with a purity of no less than 99.95% or potassium-doped tungsten wire with deformation resistance as raw materials. It is stranded into single or multi-wire structures using specific molds, and then bent and wound into specific geometric shapes.

Upon electrification, tungsten evaporation wire converts electrical energy into thermal energy through Joule heating effect, rapidly increasing temperature to melt and vaporize deposition metals (such as aluminum, copper, or gold) mounted on it. Within high-vacuum or inert atmospheres, vaporized metal atoms travel in straight lines and deposit onto substrate surfaces, cooling and solidifying to form nanometer-scale, dense thin films.

Tungsten's physical properties make the wire uniquely suited for high-precision coating. Tungsten possesses high melting point of 3,422°C, ensuring its own structural stability while melting other low-melting-point metals. At the same time, tungsten exhibits low vapor pressure under high-temperature and high-vacuum conditions, meaning wire itself does not easily volatilize. It eliminates risks of impurity contamination in coating layers and guarantees purity of finished products. Furthermore, tungsten evaporation wire exhibits excellent surface wettability with most common deposition metals, allowing molten metal to spread uniformly across heating surface and ensuring stable vaporization processes.

To accommodate different equipment thermal fields and charging methods, tungsten evaporation wire is available in shapes ranging from straight, helical, and coiled to funnel, hump, V-shaped, and basket designs. Among these, stranded multi-wire structures interweave fine wires to not only enhance overall mechanical strength, but also utilize capillary action to tightly retain molten metal within wire gaps, effectively preventing liquid from dripping due to gravity.

Tungsten evaporation wire is widely utilized in aluminum vacuum deposition for automotive lamp reflectors, non-conductive metallization coating for consumer electronics casings, anti-reflective film deposition for precision optical lenses, and continuous evaporation production lines in packaging industry.
