What's Tungsten Coil?
Tungsten coil, referred to as tungsten evaporation coil or coiled tungsten heater, is a high-temperature resistance heating element manufactured by winding high-purity tungsten wires into a helical structure through precision winding processes. It is primarily utilized for high-temperature heating and evaporation processes under vacuum environments or inert gas conditions.
The helical coil structure effectively increases the heating surface area per unit length and enhances heat concentration capabilities, thereby achieving higher thermal efficiency and a more uniform thermal field distribution. Consequently, tungsten coils are frequently utilized as vacuum evaporation sources, thermal field heating elements, and high-temperature resistance heating components.
Available in single-helix, double-helix, or stranded multi-wire designs, tungsten coils accommodate varied application loads. Stranded structures maximize mechanical strength and elevate thermal stability during prolonged, high-load continuous operations.
Tungsten features a melting point of approximately 3,422°C and retains outstanding mechanical strength along with creep resistance at temperatures above 2,000°C. Its low vapor pressure characteristics minimize the risk of material volatilization at high temperatures, which helps maintain vacuum system cleanliness and process stability. Common tungsten coils utilize high-purity tungsten wire with a purity exceeding 99.95%, whereas specialized variants adopt potassium-doped tungsten wire specifically to raise recrystallization temperatures and enhance non-sag resistance.
Featuring rapid heating rates, sensitive thermal response, and low thermal inertia, tungsten coil satisfies the stringent requirements of precision temperature control and stable evaporation processes. It is widely applied in vacuum evaporation coating, semiconductor thermal processing, electron beam evaporation preheating, optical coating, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) evaporation, and laboratory high-temperature vacuum equipment.
Tungsten wire diameters for tungsten coils typically range from 0.2 mm to 1.2 mm. Coil diameter, pitch, number of turns, and effective heating length directly determine heating efficiency, surface temperature distribution, and thermal inertia characteristics. Smaller pitch configurations favor heat concentration, whereas larger coil structures are better suited for large-area uniform heating conditions.
