What's Tungsten Evaporation Basket?
Tungsten evaporation basket, also known as tungsten basket, or basket-shaped tungsten heater, is a resistance-based vacuum evaporation heat source manufactured by winding or weaving high-purity stranded tungsten wires into a basket-like configuration. As a widely utilized tungsten heater design, it is primarily employed in vacuum evaporation coating processes to heat and vaporize granular, pelletized, or chipped deposition materials.
With a melting point of approximately 3,422°C, tungsten maintains exceptional structural stability and creep resistance at elevated temperatures. Its low vapor pressure minimizes volatilization of the heat source itself, preventing impurity contamination and ensuring film purity. The purity of high-purity tungsten wire is typically greater than or equal to 99.95%. And tungsten baskets may utilize potassium-doped tungsten wire to increase recrystallization temperature, enhancing non-sag performance and continuous operational stability.
As a common thermal evaporation source, tungsten evaporation basket is widely used in vacuum aluminizing for automotive lighting, optical reflective film deposition, consumer electronics casing metallization, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) evaporation, and laboratory vacuum coating systems. It features rapid thermal response and excellent evaporation uniformity, making it ideal for both continuous and intermittent vacuum deposition processes.
Variations in basket dimensions, winding density, and effective heating zones directly dictate evaporation efficiency, thermal field uniformity, and deposition rate control. Deeper basket profiles accommodate higher loading capacities, while dense, fine-wired structures are tailored for precision, low-power evaporation systems.
Tungsten evaporation baskets offer design flexibility with wire diameters between 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm, available in single or stranded configurations to optimize evaporation power and loading capacity. Stranded multi-wire structures interweave fine wires to enhance overall mechanical strength while utilizing capillary action to tightly retain molten metal within wire gaps, effectively preventing liquid from dripping and improving vaporization stability and material utilization.
Backed by 30+ years of manufacturing expertise, CTIA GROUP provides custom-engineered tungsten baskets optimized for specific deposition materials, charging methods, and thermal fields. We precisely adjust wire diameters, geometries, winding densities, and lead-out designs, combining advanced forming and surface treatments to deliver robust, high-stability heating solutions for vacuum coating systems.
